Job Description:

The Career Services Specialist 2 supports the Employer Relations and Career Development team by implementing established outreach activities and career programs for graduate students and alumni. Under the guidance of the Director, this role executes day-to-day employer engagement tasks, assists with the coordination of industry outreach efforts, and delivers career programming that connects students with experiential opportunities. The Specialist applies professional career development theories to advise students and ensures that all activities align with departmental policies and defined guidelines.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supports the Employer Relations and Career Development team by implementing established outreach activities and career programs for graduate students and alumni
  • Executes day-to-day employer engagement tasks
  • Assists with the coordination of industry outreach efforts
  • Delivers career programming that connects students with experiential opportunities
  • Applies professional career development theories to advise students
  • Ensures that all activities align with departmental policies and defined guidelines
  • Utilizes a theoretical understanding of career development to advise students and alumni within a limited area of career services, such as individual counseling, career planning, or improving job search competencies
  • Receives guidance from higher-level Career Services Specialists

Requirements:

  • Experience developing rapport with clients tracking client progress from initial intake through job acceptance
  • Experience in a goal oriented career counseling environment
  • experience monitoring client progress, reaching out to clients to promote job search progress and to express support and encouragement
  • Bachelor's degree required preferably in student affairs, coaching, career advising, student affairs with minimum 4 years functional career advising experience or industry experience, or a combination of experience and education
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures
  • Ability to adapt advising strategies and communication styles to meet the specific career development needs of diverse populations (including international students and multicultural groups)
  • Ability to perform rapid career-needs assessments and deliver targeted resources across multiple platforms (in-person, virtual, and group settings)
  • Ability to facilitate engaging career development presentations for diverse audiences in various formats (in-person, virtual, and recorded)
  • Ability to produce clear, concise professional correspondence and provide editorial oversight for career-related documents (resumes, cover letters, and business communications)
  • Ability to design, implement, and facilitate career development programs and workshops (e.g., resumes, interviewing, job search) for diverse audiences
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive professional relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, and corporate representatives
  • Ability to apply group dynamics theory to facilitate structured discussions, training sessions, and workshops
  • Basic knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling processes, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques
  • Ability to perform market research and synthesize data into clear executive summaries and reports
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in identifying career development gaps and conceptualizing original, practical solutions
  • Ability to use computer systems and applications, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills
  • Ability to utilize databases, electronic bulletin boards, e-mail, social media, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to apply knowledge of employment laws, EEO regulations, and industry-specific hiring practices (private, nonprofit, and public sectors)
  • Ability to prioritize a workload by balancing immediate student advising needs with long-term program planning and employer engagement goals
  • Ability to guide students through the career lifecycle by synthesizing professional interests and market trends into actionable career plans
