Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated Career Advisor to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, you will provide individualized career services and guidance to job seekers, assisting them with career planning, occupational skills training, and job placement. This is a Contract to permanent position within the non-profit sector, offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of program participants.

Job Responsibility

  • Guide job seekers through career planning and occupational skills training to help them achieve their employment goals
  • Conduct intake interviews to assess program eligibility and suitability while documenting information electronically in accordance with federal and state policies
  • Develop individualized service strategies that outline training needs and objectives based on assessments and interviews
  • Maintain accurate case files, monitor participant progress, and track outcomes throughout program involvement
  • Provide job placement counseling and follow-up services to ensure participants maintain employment and meet retention goals
  • Coordinate with training providers and community agencies to support enrolled participants
  • Conduct program orientation sessions in both group and individual settings, either on-site or off-site
  • Analyze labor market trends to identify high-demand occupational areas and recommend relevant training opportunities
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into program systems while adhering to confidentiality standards
  • Prepare monthly reports detailing participant activity and program outcomes

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in case management, career counseling, or a related field
  • Proficiency in managing client intake interviews and verifying program eligibility
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in calendar management and scheduling
  • Ability to provide effective job placement and retention counseling
  • Familiarity with labor market research and analysis to guide training recommendations
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records and documentation for program participants
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with community agencies and training providers
  • Competence in using electronic systems for data entry and tracking participant progress
