To undertake, with guidance and support, the tasks necessary to enable Service Users to maintain everyday living skills or to acquire new skills. The range of tasks covers personal care, domestic/practical tasks, and enabling and support work.
Job Responsibility:
Undertake tasks to enable Service Users to maintain or acquire everyday living skills
Observe and promote Service User’s choice, independence, dignity, privacy, fulfilment, and other rights
Help Service Users make full use of community resources and facilities
Help provide personal care and supervision
Assist in preparation and implementation of daily activities as directed
Assist meeting personal care needs (eating, toileting, bathing, dealing with incontinence, shopping, household tasks)
Maintain and encourage physical, emotional, cultural, and social needs using a person-centred approach
Create and maintain good professional relationships with Clients, family, friends, stakeholders
Actively support other Care Workers
Work flexibly and cover sessions, leave, sick leave etc. as needed
Adhere to all regulatory and statutory obligations and policies
Perform social duties (preparing/cooking meals, essential cleaning, shopping, bill payments)
Provide enabling and support (supervising, monitoring, coaching) to empower service users
Escort or accompany service users to outings, appointments, events
Be aware of personal needs and requirements, communicating successfully
Maintain appropriate records, report changes or concerns
Provide written reports or records as required
Contribute to and work effectively as part of a team
Deliver support sensitive to service user’s culture, disability, race, age, sexuality, marital status, transgender status, religion/belief
Engage and work closely with unpaid carers
Promote anti-discriminatory practice
Promote dignity and privacy
Act promptly to protect service users from neglect or abuse
Present a professional and caring image
Comply with Health and Safety policies
Abide by equality and diversity policies
Take responsibility for personal development and undertake mandatory training
Respect service user confidentiality
Safeguard children and adults
Requirements:
Education to a general level
Skills in literacy and numeracy
Ability to work with a range of Service Users (people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, older people)
Ability to work as a team member and alone when required
Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions and guidelines
Ability to communicate with people at all levels (Service Users, family/carers, professionals, senior managers)
Must be honest and trustworthy
Must be able to work in a flexible manner
Must be able to maintain enthusiasm in difficult, demanding, and stressful situations
Current, UK full driving license and access to a vehicle
Ability to partake in identified Assisted Lives tasks, as lifting is required (e.g., carrying shopping bags, moving equipment or small furniture)
Nice to have:
Previous experience of working (paid or voluntary) in a social care setting
