Job Description

Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures in the cardiovascular operating room. The Open-Heart Program lets you actively participate in critical surgeries with a history of excellent patient outcomes. Contribute to 850 cardiac surgeries annually at a nationally recognized hospital.

Job Responsibility

  • Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures in the cardiovascular operating room
  • Travels outside the OR suite to assist with placing patients on ECMO or other mechanical assist device
  • Provides age and developmental appropriate care to patient population served
  • Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients
  • Assists Physician with appropriate instruments during surgery
  • Assures accountability for proper counts of instruments and supplies during surgery
  • Maintains sterile environment according to MHS policy
  • Demonstrates proper sterile technique during procedure
  • Handoff to other crew members
  • Demonstrates accuracy and appropriate handling, labeling, and hand off to nurse of all specimens and cultures according to MHS policy
  • Verifies name and quantity of specimen with Physician
  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies
  • Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments by collaborating with SPD in inspecting and maintaining surgical instruments both pre- and post-procedure ensuring their integrity and readiness for use

  • Accredited Program: Surgical Technologist (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART), BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE), BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • One (1) year of Cardiac/Vascular OR experience required
  • Accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent

Nice to have

Cardiac operating room experience and congenital heart disease experience is preferred
