Job Description

The Band 6 Cardiology Specialist Nurse will provide specialist nursing care within the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic and Cardiac Catheter Suite pre-assessment service. The post holder will work autonomously within nurse-led clinics to assess, investigate and manage patients presenting with chest pain and other cardiac conditions, in line with local protocols and national guidelines. The role involves advanced clinical assessment, risk stratification, coordination of diagnostic investigations, medicines optimisation within scope of practice, and patient education. The post holder will work closely with Consultant Cardiologists and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, timely and high quality patient care, supporting service delivery, patient flow and positive clinical outcomes.

Job Responsibility

  • Deliver specialist nursing care within nurseled cardiology clinics, assessing and managing patients presenting with chest pain and other cardiac symptoms
  • Undertake advanced clinical assessments, including history taking, physical examination, ECG interpretation and risk stratification. Request, review and act upon appropriate cardiac investigations in line with agreed protocols
  • Provide comprehensive preassessment for patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation and other elective cardiac procedures
  • Deliver clear, evidencebased patient education and support informed decisionmaking
  • Work closely with Consultant Cardiologists and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, timely and highquality care
  • Support the Senior Sister in service delivery, service improvement initiatives, and maintaining high standards of clinical practice within cardiology
  • Assist with Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography (DSE) and Transoesophageal Echocardiography (TOE) procedures when required, in line with training, competence and local policies
  • Contribute to the education, supervision and support of junior staff and students as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and effective communication with primary care and other services

Requirements

  • NMC Registered nurse
  • Diploma/Degree in nursing
  • ILS provider
  • Willingness to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Willingness to undertake PACE or diagnostic reasoning course
  • Significant experience of working within a Cardiology setting
  • Significant post Registration nursing experience

  • Relevant post graduate course in cardiology
  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • PACE course or Diagnostic reasoning module
  • Experience within a health promotion role
  • Experience of nurse-led clinics
