Job Description

Performs diagnostic procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Job Responsibility

  • When ordered, prepares and administers ultrasound enhancing agents (UEA) and/or medications within scope of practice. Monitors patient condition continually and reports changes in status as thorough comprehensive preliminary report of study data to Physician staff.
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders. Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies. Selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters. Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment. Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • May have to travel to satellite locations to perform diagnostic procedures.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s). Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results. Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure. Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

  • Accredited Program: Ultrasound Technologist (Required)
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA)
  • Adult Echocardiography: One (1) year of experience working in an IAC accredited institution. In lieu of one year of experience, will accept credentialed new grads (within 1 year of graduation).
  • Pediatric Echocardiography (Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital): One (1) year of experience imaging congenital heart defect and surgical repairs in an IAC accredited institution. In lieu of experience, will accept new grads (within 1 year of graduation). Must obtain credential within six (6) months of starting the position.
  • Graduate of an accredited ultrasound imaging program.
  • An appropriate credential in Echocardiology: Adult Echocardiography: Registered as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) (AE) from the American Registry for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing Institute (CCI) OR Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Pediatric Echocardiography (Joe DiMaggio): Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) from the American Registry for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
