Graduation with Associates Degree in General diagnostic sonography upon hire
recent completion of a twelve-month internship in diagnostic ultrasound (with at least six months in General ultrasound) or equivalent recent directly related work experience
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) upon hire
or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) upon hire
or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echo (RDCSAE) upon hire
or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Fetal Echo (RDCSFE) upon hire
or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echo (RDCSPE) upon hire

Job Responsibility

Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with department protocols and applicable regulatory requirements
assumes responsibility for the safe, efficient and proper operation of ultrasound equipment
performs echocardiograms only if at S EH
keeps abreast of FHS standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department
keeps skills current
demonstrates evidence of continuing education
attends department, local and national professional meetings
avails themselves of individualized learning opportunities to stay current on new procedures, equipment or information
prepares/operates a variety of diagnostic ultrasound equipment in accordance with American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) standards and department protocols
operates ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of the motion, shape and composition of blood, organs, tissues and bodily masses such as fluid accumulations

Job Responsibility

Perform diagnostic echocardiography procedures to assist in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular conditions
Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality cardiac images and data
Ensure patient comfort and performing a range of echocardiographic studies
Use two patient identifiers to ensure accurate patient identification
Compare physician's orders to requisitions for accuracy
Obtain accurate medical history and complete the appropriate worksheet
Perform comprehensive clinical assessments and all diagnostic echocardiographic laboratory examinations
Utilize cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images
Recognize the significance of all visualized structures, differentiate normal from abnormal findings, and identify artifacts
Coordinate work schedule with supervisor and front desk to ensure workload coverage

Perform various diagnostic cardiology or peripheral vascular exams including Vascular Imaging (Carotid duplex, Peripheral arterial duplex, Ankle/brachial indices, Segmental pressures, Peripheral venous duplex, Cerebrovascular duplex) and Cardiac Imaging (Echocardiography, Exercise stress echo, Chemical stress echo, Transesophageal echo) and Noninvasive Cardiac Testing (Electrocardiograms (ECG), Holter/Event monitor applications, Non-imaging stress testing)
Corroborate clinical history and assess patient for appropriateness of ordered procedure
Provide patient education, apply patient relations skills and maintain confidentiality of patients and customers in a safe and professional manner
Assume responsibility for assigned area, reporting equipment malfunctions and procedure difficulties
Complete quarterly mandatory education requirements
Assume responsibility for personal and professional development through participation in department meetings, in-service programs, and continuing education programs
