Requirements

Completion of a recognized Cardiology Technologist program including completed coursework in cardiac rhythm device technology
Two (2) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT)
Eligible for International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification as a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCD) within two years of hire
Demonstrated knowledge of current relevant techniques, methods and procedures
Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data from multiple sources and to problem-solve and make decisions effectively
Ability to integrate best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions
Demonstrated ability to communicate and deal effectively with patients/residents, families, staff and other health care providers both verbally and in writing
Ability to manage competing priorities, prioritize workload, and complete assigned work
Ability to demonstrate and explain procedures to other employees and students

Job Responsibility

Facilitate optimal clinical effectiveness of implanted arrhythmia management devices through the application of technical knowledge and skills to evaluate and manage device function
Aid with device analysis for cardiac implantable electronic device patients in the inpatient (OR/EPL) as required during device implantation
Assist the physician during implant procedures
Program individual devices at correct values during implant and in the outpatient setting (Device Clinic)
Provide interpretations, analyses and test/summary reports as required
Travel between multiple sites may be required

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
BSN preferred
Minimum two years' nursing experience in cardiac care
Current pacemaker and defibrillator experience
Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
IBHRE Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) preferred
Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias
Proficient computer skills and electronic management of medical records
Good interpersonal and communication skills

Job Responsibility

Prioritize communication and collaboration of patient care based on diagnostic evaluation of implantable devices and patient symptoms
Facilitates continuity of care using the nursing process, multidisciplinary collaboration, and coordination of appropriate health care services
Interacts with patients during face-to-face encounters or through a variety of telecommunication strategies
Demonstrate proficiency in operating multiple manufacturers' programs and remote websites
Evaluate specific manufacturers' algorithms and device functionality
Provide independent direct patient care by performing interrogations and reprogramming of pacemakers, defibrillators, implantable loop recorders and other devices
Manage the device work queue to provide care for remote and on-site patients
Develop and maintain a computer database of all pacemaker and defibrillator patients in the region
Conduct specialized ambulatory cardiac diagnostic studies
Review and interpret applicable diagnostic information for all device alerts

High School Diploma or GED
Current State of Michigan RN License
Minimum of five years recent work experience working with cardiac device management in a hospital or physician’s office
Minimum of 1 1/2 years of specialized training in cardiac device management and interrogation techniques
BLS card from AHA required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date)
Current implantable cardiac device management and interrogation skills for all current models
Ability to read and interpret 12 lead ECG’s and key cardiac arrhythmia’s
Strong analytical and troubleshoot skills
Solid interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups

Job Responsibility

Responsible for responding to pre and post-op phone calls from patients regarding concerns/questions
Sends out referral letters to referring doctors through Cerner
Mails out device check letters to referring doctors
Assists with scheduling procedures and arranging pre-op testing
follows up on lab values
Manages Coumadin clinic, reviewing INR results and adjusting warfarin dosing per protocol
