About the Opportunity Amentum deliver complex major programmes including construction of new power stations, operational support and life extension for the existing fleet, and clean-up of the nuclear legacy. We are leaders in reactor technology, conceptual design and engineering for new nuclear technologies including Generation IV advanced reactors, small modular reactors and fusion power. In our work on decommissioning and remediation, we are a major supplier of engineering design, safety case and project management services at Sellafield and other major UK sites; and we operate the country’s largest private sector complex of nuclear laboratories and engineering test facilities. Within the defence sector, Amentum has an essential role in the UK’s continuous at-sea deterrent. We’re also active in naval infrastructure and shipbuilding, and in procurement and operational delivery across the whole of the UK Ministry of Defence. During a time of consistent growth in our key markets we are recruiting for a Capture and Proposal Manager, in this role you'll be accountable for the successful delivery of Sector pursuits and proposals across our Energy, Environment, Technology and Defence portfolios. This is an opportunity to join an international team of high energy individuals working in a highly collaborative environment, competing to be awarded opportunities to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems in the Energy, Environment, Defence and Technology sectors. The successful candidates will play the role of either Capture Manager or Proposals Manager on large opportunities and may be required to play both roles on smaller opportunities. Our Business Development specialists explore our target markets, identify opportunities, and establish sufficient understanding qualify as opportunities we would take forward. This will be a strategic role and will contribute to our business unit performance in collaboration with the Growth & Strategy Director (GSD), and Senior Vice President (VP) and Senior Pursuits Director, shaping for growth both internally and externally, embedding a strong culture around the Business Development delivery model, with a strong focus on clients and delivery. The role will support hybrid working and can be based at any of our Amentum office locations, travel across key locations in the UK will be required to support collaboration and the bid process.

Job Responsibility

  • Work in partnership with the Sector Business Development Directors (BDD) to mature and deliver agreed pursuits and proposals
  • Gaining an intimate understanding of the opportunity through initial briefings from the Business Development lead, direct customer interaction and facilitating client intelligence workshops with other customer facing staff
  • Holding win strategy workshops to develop a winning strategy for the opportunity
  • Producing a capture plan for the opportunity, clearly articulating the strategy for winning the opportunity
  • Working with our wealth of technical and delivery staff to establish a solution to the client needs, and a teaming or supply chain strategy for delivery, with commercial and pricing specialists to develop a pricing strategy and with creative specialists to determine the look and feel of the resulting proposal, to underpin the capture plan
  • Test the plan with clients where possible using such discussions to guide the preparation for proposal production
  • Undertake internal reviews and iterate, fine tune and improve the plan to increase confidence in success
  • Prepare budget proposals and present to checkpoint meetings for approval
  • Provide input and support to client relationships, commercial solutions, operations, and project delivery
  • Undertake pursuit proposal development and delivery of critical opportunities as agreed with the GSD, Sector VP, VP Strategic Sales and the Senior Pursuits Director
  • Provide leadership to the Proposal team in delivering strategic pursuits and proposals aligned with the BD process and milestones
  • Maintain an overview through disciplined application of Capture and provide strategic input against milestone activities by participating in Capture and Proposal reviews where appropriate
  • Work in partnership with the VP Strategic Sales and Senior Pursuits Director to strategically enhance the Proposal capacity over the longer term, including growing Proposal capabilities, talent, work processes, tools and systems to improve the quality of our product and efficiency of delivery
  • Responsible for strategic application of our Business Growth Model on selective pursuits to win work for the Company
