The Canvas Administrator is responsible for managing, configuring, and supporting the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure a seamless digital learning experience for students, faculty, and staff. This role oversees system administration, integrations, user management, data governance, and LMS‑related support operations.
Job Responsibility:
Serve as the primary system administrator for Canvas LMS, managing day‑to‑day platform operations
Configure system settings, roles, permissions, course templates, and global navigation elements
Monitor system performance, uptime, and usage patterns
coordinate with the LMS vendor for escalations as needed
Oversee provisioning and de‑provisioning of users, courses, terms, and enrollments
Manage SIS (Student Information System) integrations or bulk import processes for accounts, rosters, and course data
Support the creation and maintenance of course shells, blueprints, and academic term structures
Configure and maintain third‑party LTI tools, plugins, API connections, and authentication protocols (e.g., SSO/SAML)
Evaluate new integrations for security, compatibility, and instructional value
Coordinate testing and rollout of LMS updates, patches, and new features
Provide Tier 2/3 technical support to instructors, instructional designers, and students
Develop documentation, guides, and training materials on Canvas tools and best practices
Deliver workshops, office hours, or one‑on‑one coaching for LMS users
Maintain compliance with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, ADA) within Canvas environments
Enforce course design standards, data‑retention policies, and account governance
Conduct regular audits of course content, integrations, and role permissions
Build and manage Canvas reports, dashboards, and analytics to support academic and operational insights
Track LMS utilization, support trends, and system health metrics to inform continuous improvement
Requirements:
Experience administering Canvas LMS in an educational or enterprise environment
Strong understanding of LMS administration, course structures, roles, permissions, and global settings
Familiarity with LTI tools, Canvas APIs, and SIS integrations
Working knowledge of SSO, authentication methods, and user provisioning workflows
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and communicate solutions clearly
Strong customer service, training, and documentation skills
Ability to collaborate with IT, instructional design, academic departments, and leadership stakeholders
Nice to have:
Experience with SQL, APIs, or scripting for automation
Background in instructional technology, educational design, or e‑learning systems
Familiarity with accessibility standards (ADA, WCAG) and universal design principles
Experience with other LMS platforms or EdTech tools
