Job Description

Transports employees, students, and visitors to MUSC and areas within the assigned area of operations.

Job Responsibility

  • Transports employees, students, and visitors to MUSC and areas within the assigned area of operations
  • Boards and discharges passengers safely and efficiently
  • Monitor vehicle performance and remedy issues within operator's scope
  • Maintain administrative and operational logs (inspection forms, mileage logs, passenger counts, accident/incident reports, training updates)
  • Communicate effectively with passengers regarding schedules and services
  • Maintain work records and report accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences
  • Responsible for fueling and cleaning of the vehicle
  • Perform operator’s pre/post vehicle inspections and add fluids as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned including substituting for other drivers, quick rides, out of town travels (day trips)

Requirements

  • One year experience in the operation or maintenance of heavy equipment, motorized vehicles or machinery that is directly related to the area of employment
  • Valid driver's license and/or commercial driver's license (some positions require)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid drivers license
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Physical requirements as listed (ability to perform job functions upright, seated, walking/mobile
  • work indoors/outdoors in all weather

  • Ability to effectively identify required parts for heavy duty vehicle repair, prepare estimates of costs, time and materials
  • Ability to effectively reference, interpret and apply information disseminated from mechanical, electrical and other relevant heavy duty vehicle schematics, in both hard bound and electronic formats
  • Knowledge of safety practices related to a heavy duty vehicle repair operation including fall protection and fall arrest systems
  • Ability to promote positive public relations in a customer and safety-driven environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to read, write and follow oral instruction in English
