Reporting to the Campus Executive Director, with a dotted-line relationship to the Provost, the University Dean of General Education holds a dual-scope leadership role. Approximately 70% of the position is dedicated to campus-level academic operations - providing day-to-day leadership, direction, supervision, and evaluation of the general education program, academic support, retention and services on the assigned campus. The remaining 30% is dedicated to university-wide responsibilities, including oversight of the academic and operational components of General Education across all undergraduate programs delivered online and on site.
Job Responsibility:
Plans, directs, and controls activities concerned with the program's curriculum, instruction and retention
Directs program activities to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, accrediting bodies, and University policies and procedures
Plans, directs, and provides daily guidance of didactic and laboratory assignments and/or scheduling of classes
Provides leadership to address key issues of growth, retention, and implementation of technology requirements to support the general education program
Provides leadership and direction for student retention and persistence activities and ensures faculty involvement in these processes
Maintains, controls, and orders supplies required for the academic instruction of the program
Maintains copies of curricula, course outlines, objectives, and grading criteria
faculty credentials, licenses, and certifications
and individual student records
Functions as a member of general education program committees as needed
Assures students are provided support services to maintain the highest level of student achievement while safeguarding the integrity of the educational process
Ensures that faculty record daily class attendance and grade, record, and return all assignments and assessments promptly
Assures student course evaluations are administered each term and that feedback is provided to faculty in a timely fashion to improve instructional effectiveness
Monitors and analyzes student attrition and retention data and works with other campus and University leaders to develop initiatives that can be implemented to improve retention
Provides leadership to ensure consistency of General Education curriculum, syllabi, instruction, equipment, supplies, and materials across all campuses and instructional delivery modalities
Ensures General Education is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, accrediting bodies, and university policies and procedures across all locations and modalities
Manages online and on-campus General Education textbooks, materials, supplies, and equipment for courses or projects used in instruction
Advises the Provost on academic and operational matters related to General Education
Partners with Campus Academic Deans to provide direction, training, informational support, technical/professional guidance, and coaching to faculty on curriculum, instruction and retention
Ensures adherence to, and evaluates policies pertaining to General Education transfer credit
Creates and refines General Education learning outcomes that align with the program mission and philosophy
Provides leadership to proactively identify and resolve key issues of General Education persistence and remediation online and on campus
Supports the University Director of Student Affairs in persistence and remediation efforts for all general education students
Leads the General Education Curriculum and Assessment Committee and, in collaboration with faculty and key program stakeholders, comprehensively executes programmatic and student learning improvement plans
Develops a clear understanding of WSCUC expectations with respect to General Education and leads West Coast University in responding to them
Serves on the University Council and other committees as requested
Systematically audits on-campus and online implementation of general education policies, curriculum, and instruction
Leads the program/learning outcomes review process for General Education
Requirements:
Master's or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes significant course work in Business Administration or a related field is required
Requires at least 9 years of related work experience, including significant leadership experience
A minimum of five (5) years of full-time teaching experience
A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible management and supervisory experience in one or more areas of academic instructional management at the level of dean or above
