This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Camp Nurse ensures that all state, local and ACA requirements regarding the health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers are followed at camp.
Job Responsibility:
Responsible for the annual review and updating of written policies, plans and procedures as it pertains to the health, safety and record keeping of YMCA childcare and camp participants
Responsible for the annual review and update of camp programs
Availability by telecommunication for in person advice or consult to the Y Camp program
Consulting with administration and staff about specific problems
Acts as a resource person to staff and parents
Documents the activities and observations required in a consultation log that is kept on file
Ensures that YMCA Camp remains compliant with state and local regulations as it pertains to the health, safety and record keeping of YMCA Camp and staff
Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of the participants
Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases
Responsible for maintaining accurate health and immunization records for all children in the program according the state guidelines
Responsible for reviewing the contents, storage, and plan for maintenance of all first aid kits
Responsible for reviewing and maintaining the policies, procedures, and required documentation for the administration of medications, including petitions for special medication authorizations needed for programs that administer medication
Responsible for reviewing and approving all special care plans for children with special needs or disabilities before the child is able to begin in the program
Responsible for making sure that all medications are delivered with all special care plans and medication authorization information
Responsible for overseeing expiration dates on medications and doctor's orders on and off site and making sure current forms are on file
Notifying and communicating with parents and staff when paperwork and medication is due
Maintains and distributes current and updated allergy lists to the staff
Maintains YMCA nurses offices and related areas as required by state licensing and promotes Y values
Follows all YMCA policies and procedures including but not limited to, medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention and emergencies
Is open and receptive to constructive criticism, when it is for the benefit of the program, or the staff member's growth and development
Exercises proper judgment when dealing with a single child, group of children and staff
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements:
Have a positive approach to working with campers, staff and parents
Qualified as a RPN in the State of Connecticut and holds an unrestricted License
Knowledgeable of current State of Connecticut Department of Public Health Day Camp licensing policies and procedures
Certified in CPR, AED, First Aid and Medication Administration
Minimum of 5-years of experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing
During Pre-Camp Training
complete of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, and Bloodborne Pathogens training
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
