We are looking for Camera Assistants to join our freelance Talent Pool, based in Leeds. There are currently no available positions; however, when opportunities arise, successful candidates from our talent pool may be offered contracts on a freelance basis, as and when required.
Job Responsibility:
Shadow, observe and support the Camera Department, learning the specifics of Camera Assisting
Developing a good understanding of how the Camera and Grips Departments work together in order to achieve unit efficiency and high quality output during preparation, rehearsal or transmission of the production with high quality pictures, delivered in line with the director’s vision and interpretation
Requirements:
Experience working in a technical role as a Camera Assistant or Technical Assistant, preferably on a similar drama production with a good understanding of television production processes
Experience of duties such as: rigging and derigging camera equipment
cable-clearing
charging camera batteries and setting up monitors out on location and assisting with focusing and tracking
Proven and demonstrable interest in camera and lens / lighting techniques together with basic understanding of camera mountings, dolly, track, and cranes
Ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances creative storytelling
Driving licence is required as driving duties are part of this role as you will be expected to load equipment and drive a vehicle from our studio base out to location
Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and confident in liaising with various individuals and departments in a professional manner
Flexible, reliable, punctual and organised
Flexible approach to work and working hours and the ability to work long hours under pressure and deliver results throughout
This role entails the qualitative assessment and correction of the colourimetry of video images with the ability to spot colour or quality camera-related issues and the ability to spot and understand colour rendition
Adherence to both studio and shoot etiquette and discipline
Manual handling experience with knowledge of how to lift and carry safely
High degree of diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality
Nice to have:
Knowledge of Cameras and Technology e.g. knowledge of using P2 cards
Ability to learn new techniques and technologies e.g what makes a good shot and how camera work enhances creative storytelling
Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively and take a variety of approaches when dealing with issues and problems
