The Business Analyst / BI Specialist will lead the migration from our current Microsoft Access Service Operations DB to a more modern SQL platform, optimizing performance, data accessibility, and BI solutions. Reporting to the Director of Operations the Organisation, this role collaborates with Service & Support, Program Management, Engineering, Finance, and IT to ensure a scalable data infrastructure. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to analyze complex datasets, generate ad-hoc reports, and support data-driven decision-making. This role requires a proactive, independent thinker who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment to align data strategies with business objectives.
Job Responsibility
Analyze the existing Microsoft Access database and design an optimized SQL Server solution
Lead the extraction, transformation, and migration of data from Access to SQL
Ensure data integrity, normalization, and scalability in the new system
Work on integrating SQL Server with our ERP system (Costpoint by Deltek) and DND's DRMIS (SAP-based system)
Identify key operational KPIs and develop real-time performance-tracking dashboards
Recommend and implement a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) for visualization and reporting
Automate reporting processes to support service and support performance analysis
Optimize database performance through indexing, stored procedures, and query tuning
Maintain database security, backups, and user access controls
Support teams with data extraction, reporting, queries, and troubleshooting
Perform daily database administration activities, including operational data entry, validation, maintenance, and quality assurance to ensure accurate and reliable business information
Monitor data quality and consistency through routine audits, reconciliation, and corrective actions
Develop and maintain database documentation, procedures, and operational standards
Work closely with the service operations group, finance, IT, and cross-functional teams to align database solutions with business needs
Provide guidance on platform selection and long-term data strategy
Potentially support internal training initiatives as the SQL system matures

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field
5+ years of experience in database design, SQL development, data analysis, and BI reporting
Hands-on experience as a Business Analyst or similar role, with a strong focus on data migration, reporting, and performance tracking
Advanced proficiency in SQL Server (or other SQL platforms), including complex queries, stored procedures, and database optimization
Strong expertise in Microsoft Access for legacy database management and transition planning
Experience with ETL processes, relational database modeling, and data integrity best practices
Proficiency in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar, with the ability to develop dashboards and automate reporting
Familiarity with Costpoint (Deltek) and experience working with Canadian government ERP platforms (e.g., DRMIS/SAP-based systems) is a plus
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including macros, pivot tables, and complex formulas for data analysis
