Job Description:

The CTS Enterprise Analytics Services organization is seeking a skilled and proactive Starburst Admin Operations Lead to manage, maintain, and optimize our enterprise data query platform based on Starburst Enterprise, ensuring high availability, security, and performance of the platform, and supporting enterprise-wide analytics.

Job Responsibility:

Administering, supporting, governing and maintenance activities of Starburst
Installing, configuring, and managing Starburst software
Managing system availability, reliability, and failover strategies
Implementing and tuning resource groups, query limits, and optimization rules
Monitoring Starburst servers’ activity/usage statistics
Cluster tuning, monitoring, analysis, and optimization of Starburst query plans
Updating cluster configuration files and catalog properties for data source configuration
Collecting, debugging, and analyzing logs and Java thread dumps from Splunk
Defining UDFs using custom binary files/code
Building and supporting Materialized views
Troubleshooting Starburst issues with user access, query failures, and performance
Managing user access and authentication
Ensuring audit logging and compliance with data privacy policies
Configuring and maintaining catalogs for heterogeneous data sources
Troubleshooting connectivity and metadata issues with data lake/warehouse sources
Integrating Starburst to SAS/Tableau interface
Leading incident response and root cause analysis
Developing and maintaining SOPs and runbooks
Planning infrastructure scaling and forecasting platform capacity requirements
Tracking and optimizing usage costs
Automating cluster provisioning and routine operations
Integrating platform configuration with CI/CD tools
Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
Providing L3/L4 support and guidance for Starburst-related issues
Publishing best practices, design patterns, and deployment recommendations

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
8+ years IT experience in the areas of Starburst and BI Tools Administration
5+ years of Linux, Shell scripting experience
Starburst Certified Practitioner certification
Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes-based deployments
Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Good team player interested in sharing knowledge and cross-training other team members and shows interest in learning new technologies and products
Should be flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and have a positive outlook with the ability to take on difficult initiatives and challenges
Ability to prioritize, organize, make decisions, and solve problems while working under pressure
Self-starter who works with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a team of diverse skills and geographies
