Job Description:

The CTS Enterprise Analytics Services organization at Citi is seeking a Starburst Admin Operations Lead to manage and optimize its enterprise data query platform. The individual is tasked with high availability, security, and performance of the platform while enabling data access across business units and adhering to compliance standards

Job Responsibility:

Administering, supporting, governing and maintaining Starburst Enterprise platform
Installing, configuring, and managing Starburst software
Managing system availability, reliability, and failover strategies
Implementing and tuning resource groups, query limits, and optimization rules
Monitoring Starburst servers’ activity/usage statistics
Tuning, monitoring, analysis, and optimization of Starburst query plans
Updating cluster configuration files and catalog properties
Collection, debugging, and analysis of logs and Java thread dumps from Splunk
Defining UDFs using custom binary files/code
Building and supporting Materialized views
Troubleshooting Starburst issues related to users access, query failures, and performance
Managing user access, authentication (LDAP, SSO), and role-based access control (RBAC)
Ensuring audit logging and compliance with enterprise security and data privacy policies
Configuring and maintaining catalogs for heterogeneous data sources
Troubleshooting connectivity and metadata issues with data lakes/warehouse sources
Integrating Starburst with SAS/Tableau interfaces
Leading incident response and root cause analysis for production issues
Developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and runbooks
Ensuring disaster recovery and backup strategies are tested and documented
Forecasting platform capacity requirements
Tracking and optimizing usage costs in cloud/hybrid environments
Automating cluster provisioning, monitoring, and routine operations
Integrating platform configuration with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tools
Onboarding and maintaining Starburst services on CyberArk
Supporting multiple application teams and business user communities
Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to build capabilities
Providing L3/L4 support and guidance as Starburst SME
Publishing best practices, configuration recommendations, design patterns, deployment and security architecture
Designing testing approaches, automation, and addressing high-impact problems/projects
Ensuring risk and compliance standards are met

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
8+ years IT experience in the areas of Starburst and BI Tools Administration
5+ years of Linux, Shell scripting experience
Starburst Certified Practitioner certification
Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes-based deployments
Strong communication, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Good team player interested in sharing knowledge and cross-training other team members and shows interest in learning new technologies and products
Should be flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and have a positive outlook with the ability to take on difficult initiatives and challenges
Ability to prioritize, organize, make decisions, and solve problems while working under pressure
Self-starter who works with minimal supervision
Ability to work in a team of diverse skills and geographies
