Mantell Associates is partnered with a well-established and growing preclinical CRO, who are searching for a Business Development Manager to support commercial growth across New York and surrounding areas. Reporting into senior commercial leadership, this role will focus on developing new client relationships, expanding existing accounts, and promoting preclinical research services to biotech and pharma partners. This is a client-facing position suited to a scientifically grounded commercial professional who thrives in a fast-paced CRO environment.
Job Responsibility:
Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities within biotech and pharmaceutical organisations requiring preclinical research services
Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships by acting as a primary commercial point of contact
Promote and clearly articulate the organisation’s preclinical capabilities, platforms, and scientific value proposition
Support the preparation of proposals, budgets, and scopes of work in close collaboration with scientific and operational teams
Manage the full sales cycle, from initial engagement through contract execution and handover to project teams
Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs to inform commercial strategy
Represent the organisation at scientific conferences, partnering events, and industry meetings
Maintain accurate records of business development activity, forecasts, and pipeline updates using CRM systems
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Life Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline
Previous experience in business development, sales, or account management within a CRO, biotech, or pharmaceutical setting
Strong understanding of preclinical research, discovery services, and early drug development workflows
Proven ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Demonstrated success in building client relationships and advancing commercial opportunities
Highly motivated, self-directed, and comfortable working independently in a field-based role
Willingness to travel within the US to meet clients and attend industry events as required
