The Training Team are recruiting for a Bus Driving Instructor to join the team based at Northfleet. The main purpose of the role is to train Category D provisional licence holders to become fully qualified PCV drivers. This includes supporting them to achieve the required standard for their DVSA Module 3 and Module 4 tests, while developing the practical, professional, customer-focused and safety skills needed to become effective in-service bus drivers. The role will also support existing qualified drivers where required, including driver development, coaching, remedial training and support with maintaining Arriva driving standards.
Job Responsibility
Managing the day-to-day progress of trainees
Ensuring the safety of trainees while under instruction
Teaching the technical skills required to drive a bus safely, smoothly and professionally
Supporting trainees to meet the required standard for DVSA Module 3 and Module 4
Coaching trainees in the soft skills needed to become safe, professional and customer-focused bus drivers
Delivering training activity both on-road and in classroom-based settings where required
Supporting existing drivers through coaching, development and remedial training where required
Providing clear, timely and constructive feedback
Keeping accurate training records and updating the Training Team Leader on trainee progress
Carrying out assessments, reviews, feedback and training activities as required
Supporting Arriva driving standards through observation, feedback and training activity
Attending update sessions and taking part in training provided by the business
Carrying out any other reasonable duties requested by the line manager or the business
Requirements
Has held a full PCV licence for a minimum of 3 years
Has a good understanding of DVSA bus driving standards
Is calm, approachable and able to support learners through different stages of development
Can communicate clearly and effectively with different people
Can deliver honest and effective feedback in a constructive way
Works well as part of a team and supports wider training school activity
Is comfortable delivering training to groups, including inductions and classroom-based sessions
Is comfortable using basic technology, including computers, presentations, tablets and digital training records
Is willing to take part in training and development provided by the business
Demonstrates a flexible approach to tasks, working hours and travel in line with business needs
This role requires a full UK PCV licence and the legal right to work in the UK
