This is where my hands make life-sustaining products. As a Burn‑Off Operator, you help keep paint operations running efficiently by removing powder coat finishes from paint racks. You’ll work with a fluidized sand bed oven, pressure washers, forklifts, and hoists to clean racks so they’re ready for reuse. This role is hands‑on and physical, requiring attention to detail, a strong focus on safety, and the ability to follow standard work procedures. You’ll support daily production by maintaining equipment, inspecting finished racks, and keeping the burn‑off area clean, organized, and operating smoothly.
Job Responsibility:
Operate burn‑off equipment to remove powder coating from paint racks using: Fluidized sand bed oven Pressure washing equipment
Perform basic maintenance on the fluidized sand bed system to reduce downtime, including: Checking and maintaining proper sand levels Ensuring proper sand fluidization
Inspecting and cleaning fluidization filters
Clean sand containment containers in dust collection and H.E.P.A. vacuum systems
Pressure wash racks after burn‑off to remove ash and sand residue
Inspect racks to ensure they are fully cleaned and ready for reuse
Load and unload racks using forklifts and overhead hoists
Pick up and deliver paint rack carriers from storage locations
Load and unload paint racks and powder coat paint masks from burn‑off containers
Reclaim sand from the cleaning process and reload it into the burn‑off oven
Load fresh sand into sand tubs and burn‑off furnace as needed
Keep the burn‑off area clean and safe throughout the shift, including end‑of‑shift cleanup
Follow all safety rules, procedures, and standard work instructions at all times
Communicate equipment, quality, or process issues—and potential solutions—to the team
Document production or process data as needed
Troubleshoot issues to support quality and production flow
Assist with training new employees as required
Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations
Requirements:
High School Diploma or (GED) General Education Degree (applies to anyone hired after 1997)
Must obtain and maintain a Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) license
Ability to operate walk-behind, sit-down, and stand-up forklifts safely
Ability to pass required medical evaluations
Physical Requirements: Ability to operate a pressure washer throughout the shift
Ability to add sand to the burn‑off oven as needed
Ability to shovel a limited amount of sand during end‑of‑shift cleanup
Ability to work safely around industrial equipment and heat‑related processes
