The Dispatch Planner (DP) will be accountable for coordinating assets to satisfy the needs of the Customer, Driver, and Company. The DP is responsible for the overall productivity and performance of their assigned Drivers and tractors. This role will focus on cost control, efficiency of the local operations and integration of the fleet into Bison networks. The DP is expected to address issues that go beyond the scope of regular daily activity and is expected to be a leader for their regional team by providing direction and support on a day to day basis. Must be well organized, an excellent communicator and have a keen sense of timeliness in prioritizing personal and fleet activities. The DP will also be responsible for executing the day to day activity of their assigned region. This includes: monitoring of the fleet, accurately distributing, receiving and updating information, and identifying and participating in the resolution of issues relating to day to day driver activities.
Job Responsibility:
Assess driver, tractor, and trailer availability to build efficient daily and weekly plans
Forecast and respond to customer needs, volumes, and priorities
Develop and communicate plans clearly, adjusting as required to meet operational demands
Communicate load details, routing, schedule changes, and real‑time updates to drivers
Ensure accurate system updates for events, times, and load status
Address scheduling conflicts promptly and confirm all fleet activity by end of day
Monitor driver availability and performance to meet productivity targets
Set goals with drivers and follow up on gaps or issues
Support driver selection for scheduled lanes
Maximize tractor productivity through effective scheduling and coordination
Work with maintenance to plan downtime strategically and minimize disruptions
Manage tractor assignments and respond quickly to breakdowns
Build strong working relationships with drivers
Resolve day‑to‑day operational, customer service, and maintenance concerns
Support long‑term retention by addressing issues proactively
Monitor safety, compliance, customer service, and operational standards
Conduct performance discussions and maintain accurate documentation (DIMS)
Respond to satellite messages and phone inquiries in a timely, professional manner
Provide clear instructions and ensure proper communication procedures are followed
Document and communicate operational, customer, and driver‑related issues
Complete additional reporting as required
Troubleshoot and resolve daily operational issues related to planning, pay, maintenance, or driver concerns
Escalate recurring issues to leadership when needed
Participate in special projects, training, and weekend planning as required
Support additional operational tasks as assigned
Requirements:
1-3 years of previous transportation or logistics experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated skills in aligning goals with strategic direction to achieve targeted business results
Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
Ability to build strong relationships with drivers and support positive driver engagement
Solid understanding of transportation regulations (hours of service, safety, compliance)
