Working knowledge of basic housekeeping techniques and equipment
Demonstrated ability to read and write the English language and to understand and follow oral instructions
Demonstrated ability to stand for extended lengths of time (five hours or more)

Job Responsibility

Provide housekeeping services for university buildings through routine cleaning, specific floor maintenance and protection procedures, carpet maintenance procedures, and the application of those techniques and procedures accepted by the Custodial Maintenance Industry as necessary in maintaining institutional and educational facilities in their best possible condition
Position is designated 'Essential Personnel' and reports to work as directed during emergency closings

Perform maintenance, repair, and inspection of physical structures of facilities, equipment, grounds, and vehicles
Ensure all equipment and facilities are regularly inspected and properly maintained (HVAC, boilers, alarm systems, vehicles, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, plumbing, back-up generators, electrical)
Ensure ground maintenance activities are completed (mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, raking leaves, removing litter) or monitor grounds contract vendor
Prepare requisitions and purchase orders for services, equipment, and supplies
Perform maintenance requests received from departments as assigned
Assist in conducting emergency preparedness drills
Conduct monthly inspections of facilities, equipment and vehicles using checklists and document findings
Cross-train on various systems (air conditioning, heating, alarms and security, boiler, back-up generators, vehicles) at all locations
Work with Directors to coordinate and complete major projects (e.g., painting repairs)
Be on call after hours one or two weeks per month to address major health and safety issues
