At MapMortar, we have built the capital planning infrastructure for real estate in the climate transition. Real estate portfolios must make trillion-dollar decisions to decarbonise, manage climate risk and protect asset value. Today, most of those decisions are still made using static reports, spreadsheets and fragmented engineering advice. MapMortar changes that. Our agentic modelling technology — developed with University College London — combines physics-based building intelligence with AI to help asset managers, consultants and owners understand financial outcomes, physical feasibility and transition risk across entire portfolios. We are looking for a Building Performance Engineer who wants to do more than run simulations — someone who wants to shape how those simulations become the foundation of an industry-grade platform.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver building-performance simulations using EnergyPlus and MapMortar’s internal modelling tools
Draw on experience across simulation environments to produce realistic, industry-aligned outputs
Translate results into clear insights supporting project delivery and product development
Work with the development team to test features, validate model behaviour and sharpen engineering logic
Write lightweight scripts (Python, JavaScript or similar) to automate tasks, manipulate model data and support QA
Improve modelling assumptions, templates and workflows through applied engineering insight
Manage tasks, testing cycles and internal requests with a high degree of autonomy
Advise on Net Zero strategies, compliance pathways and performance outcomes for UK/EU building types
Requirements:
3+ years in building-performance engineering or energy modelling
Strong hands-on experience with EnergyPlus
Background in building or mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
Familiarity with other simulation tools and environments
Basic scripting ability in Python, JavaScript or similar
Deep understanding of building physics, HVAC systems and energy-efficiency strategies
Working knowledge of Net Zero Carbon frameworks and decarbonisation approaches
Solid grasp of UK or European building regulations and energy-performance compliance
Ability to work independently and communicate clearly across engineering and software teams
Nice to have:
Experience conducting site audits or building inspections
Strong working knowledge of EPC methodology, CRREM pathways or similar frameworks
Prior experience in a tech-enabled or data-driven engineering environment
Exposure to QA or testing workflows within a software team
Experience with parametric or optimisation-based modelling
Familiarity with cloud-based or automated simulation pipelines
