Requirements

Proven experience in construction inspection or related roles within the construction industry
Strong knowledge of construction processes, quality control procedures, and building codes including the 2024 Family of International Building Codes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately
Excellent analysis skills for assessing construction quality and identifying potential issues

Job Responsibility

Conduct comprehensive inspections of construction sites to verify compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and project specifications
Review blueprints, schematics, and construction plans to ensure accuracy and adherence to design intent
Perform quality control checks throughout various phases of construction, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, and finishing work
Collect data related to construction progress, quality issues, and safety concerns for reporting purposes
Analyze inspection findings to identify potential issues or deviations from plans and specifications
Collaborate with construction management teams to address deficiencies or non-compliance issues promptly
Document inspection results thoroughly and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders
Monitor adherence to contracts and project timelines while ensuring work meets established standards
Conduct site visits regularly to oversee ongoing work and verify that construction practices align with approved plans

Four years of full-time paid experience as a building, construction, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, housing, or combined inspector for or on behalf of a governmental agency engaged in general residential construction
Four years of full-time paid experience as a licensed general, masonry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical contractor engaged in general residential construction
Two years of full-time paid experience in carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical work, in general residential construction following the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
Eight years of full-time paid experience in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, or other construction related craft work in general residential construction
One year full-time paid experience, as an Assistant Inspector III or an Inspector Trainee III with the City of Los Angeles

Successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of coursework from an accredited trade school, college or university

Job Responsibility

Assists inspectors and receives training in the inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, heating and refrigeration, electrical installations, grading projects
or as an elevator or pressure vessel safety engineer.
May be subject to frequent review, written examinations, and supervision, and may perform regular inspector’s duties as indicated by training progress.
May perform owner and property records research, data input, report generation and field data collection.
In the Housing and Community Investment Department may post notices of inspection at multi-family properties and distribute pertinent information regarding housing related issues to the public
and may independently make inspections of a limited scope.
In the Department of Public Works and Airports assist inspectors and receive training in the inspection of streets, sewers, storm drains, bridges and structures, and in the administration of public works contracts and permits
and may independently make inspections of a limited scope.
