As a Building Consents Officer (Processing), you’ll help deliver efficient, customer-focused building consent services while ensuring applications meet legislative and regulatory requirements. This is an opportunity to apply your technical knowledge in a collaborative environment where accuracy, consistency, and customer service are highly valued. Working closely with customers, builders, designers, and internal teams, you’ll be responsible for processing and assessing a range of building-related applications, including building consents, PIMs, and associated compliance documentation. You’ll contribute to maintaining Building Consent Authority accreditation standards while supporting a positive team culture focused on continuous improvement, practical problem-solving, and delivering quality outcomes for the community. Please note this opportunity is a 12month fixed term opportunity covering mat leave.
Job Responsibility
Process and assess building consent and PIM applications in line with the Building Act and New Zealand Building Code
Provide accurate, timely, and customer-focused processing services that support quality building outcomes
Contribute to maintaining Building Consent Authority accreditation standards and minimising risk to Council
Process associated applications including Certificates of Acceptance, LIMs, and compliance schedule amendments
Work collaboratively within a supportive team environment that values continuous improvement and professional growth
Requirements
Experience within a Building Consent Authority and/or significant practical construction industry experience
Sound knowledge of the Building Act, New Zealand Building Code, and associated legislation
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet statutory deadlines
Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills, with a strong customer focus
A Regulation 18 compliant qualification (or relevant trade qualification with willingness to work towards this), along with a current full driver licence
