Building Commissioner

The town of Scituate seeks qualified applicants for the position of Building Commissioner. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Building Department, including performing administrative, supervisory and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the state building code and the local zoning bylaw. Performs permit application review and approval and permit issuance; field inspections and investigations of violations; checks compliance with approved site plans; orders compliance when deficiencies or infractions are noted. Performs other related work as required including supervision of assigned staff, valuing property and taxable personal property, and managing the abatement and appeal processes. Bachelor’s degree in related field of building construction or design preferred and five-seven years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design equivalent. Massachusetts certification as Building Commissioner or Local Inspector. This union, salaried position is compensated between $94,205 to $103,983 annually, DOE.
