Full-time Building Associate position available in Bankstown, NSW 2200. NSW Building & Civil is a Sydney-based civil contractor delivering asphalt roads & carparks, footpaths/kerb & gutter, road construction, stormwater drainage, paving, restorations and school/playground upgrades across Greater Sydney and regional NSW. Our project managers, engineers and site crews work closely to plan, stage and deliver safe, compliant and high-quality works for councils, builders and private clients. Read and apply drawings, specifications, the NCC/BCA (as relevant) and Australian Standards
raise and track RFIs
Set out and verify lines/levels and dimensions for structural elements, services interfaces and finishes
coordinate certifier/inspector visits and inspection hold points
Build and maintain 1-3 week look-ahead programs
sequence structure → services rough-in → close-up → finishes to meet milestones while maintaining pedestrian/traffic access
Coordinate building trades (formwork/concrete/steel, carpentry, cladding/glazing, internal finishes) and services interfaces (electrical/mechanical/hydraulic/fire)
manage just-in-time deliveries
Prepare basic quantities/take-offs
assist with scopes, quotes and supplier/subcontractor comparisons to support procurement
Track schedule, costs and productivity
reconcile delivery dockets and hire records
contribute to progress claims, variations and RFI/defect registers
Implement QA/ITPs and hold points (e.g., rebar, formwork, waterproofing, services pressure tests, fire-stopping)
maintain conformance records and test results
Check workmanship/materials against project specs, standards and client requirements
close out NCRs and manage defect lists through re-inspection
Lead WHS & environmental controls: site inductions, pre-starts/toolboxes, SWMS compliance, temporary works permits, traffic/pedestrian interface, dust/sediment measures
Liaise with clients, councils, residents and schools
coordinate permits and approvals (building/road-occupancy), Dial-Before-You-Dig/service proving and TMP staging
Compile as-builts, O&M inputs, warranties and compliance certificates
assemble handover packs and support occupancy/permit close-out
Provide clear daily/weekly updates to the Project/Construction Manager
keep accurate site diaries and photo records
Requirements:
Diploma in Building and Construction (or equivalent)
At least 1 year of proven work experience as a Building Associate or civil/site supervision
Strong WHS/QA knowledge
competent with basic set-out and levels
Problem-solving under time constraints
escalation and decision making
Crew leadership and subcontractor coordination on live work zones
