We are looking for an experienced Budget Analyst to join our team in San Antonio, Texas. In this role, you will play a key part in financial planning and analysis, ensuring the organization’s budgets align with strategic goals. This position requires a strong understanding of budgeting principles, forecasting techniques, and corporate finance practices.
Job Responsibility:
Coordinate and prepare the organization’s annual budgets, including gathering, analyzing, and reviewing financial data
Conduct financial analyses to evaluate business opportunities, identify variances, and assess operational and financial performance
Review budget submissions for accuracy and appropriateness, providing recommendations and resolving concerns with departments
Monitor departmental expenditures to ensure compliance with budget guidelines and organizational objectives
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, explaining variances between budgeted and actual figures
Support the budgeting software and databases, providing assistance and creating ad-hoc budget reports as needed
Attend budget meetings with executive management, department leads, and public hearings to discuss budgetary matters
Stay updated on literature related to organizational planning, accounting, and public policy to enhance financial practices
Ensure compliance with federal regulations and reporting requirements, including those of the Federal Transit Administration
Develop charts, graphs, and spreadsheets to present financial data effectively
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
Minimum of two years of experience in governmental accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis
equivalent experience may substitute for education
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting procedures, and federal regulations
Proficiency in using automated accounting systems and advanced computer applications, including spreadsheets and databases
Ability to create and maintain data retrieval programs using database software
Familiarity with Federal Transit Administration National Transit Database reporting
Strong analytical skills to handle sensitive and confidential information with accuracy
Commitment to meeting the expectations of internal and external stakeholders and maintaining reliable attendance
