Job Description

To assist with managing, analyzing and reporting on the University’s personnel and operating budgets. May also provide general office support to the OBFP and assist with the daily transactional workload as needed.

  • May also provide general office support to the OBFP and assist with the daily transactional workload as needed.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of financial policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Considerable skills in Microsoft suite, specifically word, database, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with various levels of management, members of the campus community, and other state agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of agency fiscal needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to assemble and analyze large data sets in order to prepare clear and concise financial reports and recommendations for various levels of management.
  • Working experience in accounting or finance.
  • Working experience in preparing, manipulating, analyzing, and reconciling data.
  • Some experience in using automated/electronic financial systems.

Nice to have

  • Working experience in using automated/electronic financial systems.
  • Some applicable experience in higher education or a large government agency.
  • Prior working experience with Banner for Higher Education, Cognos Reporting, Cardinal, VA Performance Budgeting System or other ERP and Financial Reporting Systems.
  • Working knowledge of budget development, management, and reporting in higher education or governmental entity.
  • Working knowledge of state budget and finance policies, procedures, and systems.
