We are looking for a Budget Analyst to support financial planning and resource allocation for a university in New Orleans, Louisiana. This role contributes to the development, review, and tracking of operating and capital budgets while helping ensure compliance with applicable state budgeting guidelines. The ideal candidate will translate financial data into clear reports and recommendations that support sound institutional decision-making and fiscal accountability.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, review, and maintain annual operating and capital budget information to support institutional planning and financial oversight
Analyze financial results, spending patterns, and budget variances to identify trends and provide actionable insights to leadership
Partner with academic and administrative departments to gather budget submissions, evaluate requests, and ensure supporting data is complete and accurate
Monitor expenditures throughout the fiscal year and help departments stay aligned with approved funding levels and organizational priorities
Prepare recurring and ad hoc budget reports, forecasts, and presentations for university leadership and other stakeholders
Interpret financial policies and applicable state budget requirements to help maintain compliance and consistency in budget administration
Assist with long-range financial planning by compiling data and supporting scenario analysis for strategic decision-making
Work within Banner or comparable financial systems to manage budget data, produce reports, and improve the accuracy of financial records
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline
At least 3 years of progressive experience in budgeting, financial analysis, accounting, or a similar finance-related function
Strong understanding of budget development, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting practices
Ability to analyze complex financial information and present findings in a clear, concise manner
Proficiency with enterprise financial systems
experience with Banner or a similar platform is preferred
Experience in higher education or public-sector budgeting is preferred
Familiarity with state and federal grant funding requirements is a plus
