Job Description

A highly regarded primary school in Hornchurch is seeking a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join their specialist Deaf Provision from September. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an inclusive mainstream setting, supporting pupils with hearing impairments to access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

Job Responsibility

  • Support pupils with a range of hearing needs within the school's specialist Deaf Provision
  • Use British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication
  • Support classroom learning
  • Adapt resources where necessary
  • Encourage pupils' independence both inside and outside of the classroom

Requirements

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification
  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to adapt learning and communication to meet individual needs
  • Strong spoken and written English
  • A positive, patient, and proactive approach

Nice to have

Experience within a Deaf Provision, SEND setting, primary school, or specialist education environment is highly desirable
