Job Description:

Are you a motivated individual looking to build your career in aquaculture? We are seeking a Broodstock Technician to join our Freshwater team in Northampton, NB. Located near Woodstock our Northampton facility is an Atlantic salmon broodstock site supporting year-round egg production. The site includes an intake system, flow-through tanks, and multiple RAS egg incubation systems.

Job Responsibility:

  • brood fish husbandry and handling
  • fish health sampling
  • water quality analysis
  • operation of RAS incubation units
  • egg stripping and fertilization during spawning periods
  • preparation of ova for delivery to hatcheries
  • fish sorting and sexing
  • maintaining a proactive approach to health and safety throughout the facility

Requirements:

  • Experience in broodstock production would be an asset
  • Previous experience operating RAS units
  • Work flexibly to meet demands of the job
  • Self-motivated and able to work well in a large team
  • Well-developed English verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail is essential
  • Good communication and planning skills
  • Respect for the need for safe working practices and animal welfare
  • Willingness to participate in Mowi's development and training opportunities
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Coordinate production of breeding nucleus and production groups in line with genetic, operational and experimental targets
  • Maintain high standards of biosecurity, fish welfare, and operational compliance
  • Ensure accurate capture and documentation of phenotypic data from broodstock, informants, and research trials, and prepare datasets for genetic analysis
  • Coordinate biological sampling, trial logistics, reporting, fish movements, and field operations with internal and external R&D partners
  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and availability of breeding, sampling, and data-collection equipment, while supporting continuous improvement in traceability, data capture, and operational efficiency
  • Coordinate and supervise technicians and temporary staff during peak periods
  • Liaise with production teams, R&D staff, research partners, and trial facilities to align breeding and experimental activities
