Job Description:

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Bridge Engineering Associate in the Birmingham, AL office.

Job Responsibility:

  • Works as a member of a bridge design team to design highway bridge projects for public clients at the local, county or state level
  • Works with a team in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for projects of various sizes and complexity
  • Independently and confidently performs structural engineering design, modeling and calculations associated with highway bridge design projects
  • Assists in the planning, development, and coordination of bridge engineering designs
  • Assists in the preparation or modification of reports specifications, plans, permits, and designs for bridge related projects
  • Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to help resolve a variety of complex problems
  • Assists in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, and tests, in order to plan and design projects
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
  • Performs bridge inspections for routine and complex bridge structures, prepare reports and bridge repair plans, and coordinate with other team members
  • Accompanies Engineers and technicians to bridge inspection site visits as needed
  • Performs other duties as requested

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • EIT Certification preferred
  • 0 - 4 years’ experience
  • Experience using Open Roads, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job-related manuals and documents
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced-collaborative team atmosphere with an established group of surveyors, engineers, scientists, and administrative staff
  • Attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice to have:

Experience using Open Roads, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus
