An excellent opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant Breast Medical Oncologist to join a supportive, forward-thinking oncology team in Greater London. The successful applicant will take continuous responsibility for patients with breast cancer and play a key role in delivering high-quality medical oncology services, service development, governance, teaching, and research.
Job Responsibility:
Provide specialist Medical Oncology care for patients with breast cancer, including outpatient clinics, systemic therapy management, and follow-up care
Maintain continuous clinical responsibility for patients under your care
Actively participate in weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
Support the Acute Oncology service, including advice for emergency oncology admissions
Provide on-site clinical support to chemotherapy services and the clinical trials unit, including review of chemotherapy prescriptions and patient assessment
Ensure patients are fully involved in decisions about their care, maintaining excellent communication with patients and families
Participate fully in clinical governance, audit, risk management, and patient safety activities
Contribute required data to audit programmes and quality assurance processes
Support compliance with NICE guidance, national cancer standards, and benchmarking requirements
Participate in incident reporting, Duty of Candour, and risk register processes
Act as a role model for infection prevention and control practices
Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, and the wider cancer MDT to deliver and develop high-quality oncology services
Contribute to service innovation, pathway development, and implementation of cancer strategy objectives
Support divisional objectives related to performance, efficiency, and patient experience
Participate in peer review, specialist pathway groups, and clinical networks as required
Participate in undergraduate medical teaching, particularly in breast oncology
Provide clinical supervision and support for junior doctors and non-consultant grades
Contribute to multidisciplinary education and training programmes
Actively participate in research activity, particularly studies aligned with the NIHR portfolio
Support the delivery of clinical trials and research governance within oncology services
Undertake administrative duties related to patient care and departmental functioning
Participate in annual appraisal, job planning, and revalidation processes
Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with Royal College guidance
Ensure compliance with Trust policies, including infection control and statutory training
Requirements:
Complete GMC registration with a licence to practise
MRCP or equivalent
Minimum 1 year of NHS experience
Specialist competence in Medical Oncology with a focus on breast cancer
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
Commitment to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement
Nice to have:
Higher degree (MD / PhD)
Experience in clinical research and trials
Evidence of service development, audit, or change management
