We are looking for a dedicated Bookkeeper to join our team on a part-time contract basis in North Charleston, South Carolina. This position requires 20-30 hours per week and offers an hourly rate of $25. The ideal candidate will oversee financial and accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance while supporting the operational needs of the organization.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and oversee the church’s financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and contribution processing
Prepare detailed financial reports, budgets, and statements for review by the church leadership and relevant committees
Reconcile bank accounts monthly, ensuring accuracy and addressing discrepancies promptly
Monitor financial transactions to prevent fraudulent activities and maintain fiscal integrity
Maintain accountability for church assets and review insurance policies and contracts for optimal coverage
Prepare and submit annual tax forms, such as W-2s and 1099s, to appropriate agencies in a timely manner
Assist with audits and provide documentation to the Trustee Ministry as needed
Attend staff and council meetings to provide financial updates and collaborate on operational planning
Ensure compliance with church policies and bylaws while performing assigned duties
Perform other financial and administrative tasks as directed by leadership
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a focus on accounting preferred, or at least five years of accounting experience
Proficiency in QuickBooks and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Prior experience in nonprofit or church administration and accounting is highly desirable
Strong analytical skills with a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly
Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
Organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing multiple responsibilities under pressure
Familiarity with preparing tax forms and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
