Seeking a part-time Bookkeeper (20 hours/week) to manage financial and business operations, including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, banking, internal controls, and compliance with Diocesan, Episcopal Church, and IRS regulations. This will be for about 3 months.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain and manage the general ledger, including chart of accounts and journal entries
Oversee core accounting operations such as accounts payable, payroll processing, and bank and credit card reconciliations
Support budgeting activities, including development, monitoring, and variance analysis
Track and report on donor contributions, pledges, and restricted funds across fiscal years
Support accounting needs across multiple entities or programs (e.g., church and school operations)
Utilize nonprofit or church accounting systems to ensure accurate financial reporting
Assist with audits and work with external auditors, CPAs, or regulatory agencies as needed
Requirements:
Experience in nonprofit fund accounting
church or faith-based organization experience is a plus
Familiarity with nonprofit or church accounting software (e.g., ParishSoft, ACS, QuickBooks for Nonprofits)
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and core accounting processes
Experience supporting budgeting and financial reporting activities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a deadline-driven environment
Strong communication skills and collaborative working style
Proven experience in bookkeeping, with a strong understanding of accounting principles
Proficiency in QuickBooks and other financial management software
Knowledge of accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and payroll functions
Strong ability to perform bank reconciliations and prepare accurate financial reports
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Effective communication skills to collaborate with leadership and stakeholders
Ability to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
Familiarity with nonprofit or church financial operations is a plus
