Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join a construction company in San Diego, California on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This position oversees daily accounting activities with a strong emphasis on both payables and receivables, while supporting accurate financial records in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate brings construction industry experience, solid knowledge of job cost accounting, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping activities, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner
  • Review and enter a high volume of vendor invoices, confirming alignment with purchase orders and related backup documentation
  • Coordinate weekly payment processing, including check runs and electronic disbursements, while maintaining complete vendor account details
  • Investigate and resolve invoice issues, reconcile vendor statements, and follow up on outstanding items to keep accounts current
  • Prepare and send customer billing, post incoming payments, and maintain accurate account balances across receivables
  • Track aging reports, follow up on overdue invoices, and support collection efforts to improve cash flow
  • Research billing concerns and account discrepancies, working with internal teams to ensure timely resolution
  • Assist with construction-related accounting activities by supporting job cost tracking and transaction accuracy

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction industry
  • Hands-on knowledge of both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable workflows
  • Familiarity with job cost accounting and construction-related financial transactions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas and spreadsheet management
  • Experience using bookkeeping or accounting software such as QuickBooks
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced setting
