Job Responsibility

Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Nurses manage patients either preparing for or recovering from a bone marrow transplant that are highly immunosuppressed and very susceptible to infection
Performs nursing assessment and lab evaluation on all treatment patients
Reviews patient labs to determine if values are within accepted parameters for treatment
Possesses an in-depth knowledge of oncology and/or blood and marrow transplantation, chemotherapy and biotherapy treatment regimens, medications and blood products used to care for these complex patients
Knows the uses, standard dose, high dose, functions, side effects and management/administration requirements of chemotherapy and biotherapy regimens
Elicits pertinent information concerning treatment and any treatment-related side effects

Managing care for both allogeneic and autologous recipients, as well as donors, throughout complex treatment processes
Serves as the primary contact for patients, families, and healthcare providers, facilitating communication and ensuring seamless coordination of care in both inpatient and outpatient settings
Triage patient inquiries, educating patients and families about treatment options and changes, and collaborating with the HBC team to optimize patient outcomes
Dedicated to monitoring and supporting patients, ensuring they achieve their maximum health potential throughout their treatment journey.
