The Boiler Tender is a performance-level position responsible for the independent operation, monitoring, and maintenance of boiler and chiller plant systems at Fort Leonard Wood, ensuring the production of steam and high-temperature water for facility operations. This role demands demonstrated competency in boiler plant operations and a commitment to safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant system performance.
Job Responsibility:
Operate and maintain one or more boilers for steam or high-temperature water generation
Monitor and log readings from centrifugal chillers, ensuring optimal performance
Perform boiler startup, shutdown, and firing procedures in accordance with established protocols
Conduct boiler water testing and treatment, including chemical analysis
Respond to operational emergencies and maintain accurate operational logs and documentation
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating boiler systems or completion of a relevant training program
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
ability to maintain driving privileges
Ability to wear a respirator and meet access requirements for federal installations
Strong problem-solving skills to address common inquiries or operational issues effectively
Must be able to pass a background check to obtain base access
