Job Description

The Boiler Tender is a performance-level position responsible for the independent operation, monitoring, and maintenance of boiler and chiller plant systems at Fort Leonard Wood, ensuring the production of steam and high-temperature water for facility operations. This role demands demonstrated competency in boiler plant operations and a commitment to safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant system performance.

Job Responsibility

  • Operate and maintain one or more boilers for steam or high-temperature water generation
  • Monitor and log readings from centrifugal chillers, ensuring optimal performance
  • Perform boiler startup, shutdown, and firing procedures in accordance with established protocols
  • Conduct boiler water testing and treatment, including chemical analysis
  • Respond to operational emergencies and maintain accurate operational logs and documentation

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience operating boiler systems or completion of a relevant training program
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
  • ability to maintain driving privileges
  • Ability to wear a respirator and meet access requirements for federal installations
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address common inquiries or operational issues effectively
  • Must be able to pass a background check to obtain base access
