The House Parent plays a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for students living in the boarding house. This role focuses on the welfare, pastoral care, and supervision of boarders, ensuring that their daily routines run smoothly and that they feel at home while away from their families.
Job Responsibility:
Provide day-to-day pastoral support, guidance, and encouragement to students
Supervise boarders during designated shifts, including evenings, weekends, or mornings as scheduled
Assist students in developing good study habits, personal responsibility, and life skills
Support the health and wellbeing of students, including managing minor medical needs and liaising with medical staff where necessary
Uphold and reinforce boarding house rules, promoting positive behavior and mutual respect
Ensure the boarding house environment is safe, clean, and welcoming
Accompany and supervise students during activities, outings, and meals when required
Maintain good communication with parents, guardians, and school staff as directed by the Head of Boarding
Respond appropriately to emergencies, safeguarding concerns, and incidents, following school policies and procedures
Contribute to fostering a positive community atmosphere within the boarding house
Requirements:
A genuine interest in the wellbeing, development, and safety of young people
Fluent English
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport
Reliability, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required
Awareness of safeguarding and child protection principles (training will be provided)
