Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Board Level Consultant to provide high-level guidance to the Board of Directors for a prominent UK Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracting company. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the M&E sector, especially within complex, large-scale EPC projects, alongside exemplary corporate governance expertise and a proven history of strategic leadership. This is a non-executive, advisory role requiring a significant commitment to guide the company’s long-term success, ensure robust governance, and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide expert advice and support to the Board and the Chairman on setting the strategic agenda, focusing on market positioning, growth opportunities, and risk mitigation within the M&E EPC landscape
  • Offer guidance on ensuring the Board’s effectiveness, promoting a culture of informed debate, and constructive challenge to management
  • Advise on upholding the highest standards of corporate governance and ethics, consistent with UK regulatory and industry best practices
  • Contribute to discussions concerning the performance evaluation of the Board and its committees, and high-level succession planning
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and Board to shape and critique the company’s long-term strategy, focusing on profitable growth in key M&E market segments (e.g., data centres, commercial/residential developments, industrial infrastructure)
  • Provide independent insight and scrutiny on management’s performance against strategic goals, particularly regarding project delivery, efficiency, and financial health
  • Offer counsel on strengthening risk management systems to address sector-specific risks, including supply chain volatility, project delays, and complex regulatory compliance
  • Advise on best practices for achieving exceptional Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, critical for site-based M&E work
  • Offer high-level guidance on managing relationships with shareholders and the investment community
  • Advise the Board on fostering effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including major clients, main contractors, regulators, and government bodies
  • Contribute to the effective communication of the company’s strategy and performance to all stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience at Board level (e.g., Former Chairman, CEO, or highly experienced Non-Executive Director) within the construction, engineering, or related technical services sectors
  • Deep, demonstrable knowledge of the UK Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contracting industry is highly preferred, or significant experience in advising on large-scale EPC/design-build projects
  • Expert understanding of corporate governance principles, financial oversight, and risk management in a large-scale contracting environment
  • Proven track record of strategic insight and contributing to sustainable commercial success
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills essential for advising the Board and engaging diverse external parties
  • Strong commitment to integrity and ethical business practices
  • A degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred), Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related technical/commercial field is desirable
