Job Description:

The entry level Technologist in the Blood Bank's Clinical Laboratory is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting of technical laboratory testing on patient specimens for use in the transfusion of blood products. Follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice.

Job Responsibility:

  • Appropriately detects, evaluates and reports suspected complications experienced by transfusion recipients
  • Consistently completes Transfusion Reaction Investigation thoroughly and accurately
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control
  • Accessions patient specimens for tests and blood product orders
  • Performs pre-transfusion testing such as ABO/Rh, antibody screening, antibody identification, DAT and crossmatch
  • Performs other immunohematology tests as requested
  • Performs and maintains competency in the technical and related work of the Blood Bank Laboratory
  • Effectively manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment
  • Processes and labels blood components including, aliquoting, washing red cells, irradiating, thawing frozen products and pooling
  • Reports test results in a timely manner
  • Issues blood products upon request by performing an accurate clerical check
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Safety in Blood Banking including biological, chemical and radiation safety

  • Associates (Required)
  • Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • No prior work experience required
  • At least one year of experience rotating in Blood Bank highly preferred
  • Every other weekend required
