The role of Blade Traveling Service Technician directly supports the company's mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. As a Blade Traveling Service Technician, you will be responsible to inspect, diagnose, adjust, or repairing wind turbines and completing multiple-layer blade repairs in the field, while performing maintenance on wind turbine blade equipment including resolving electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions.
Job Responsibility:
Performs blades major corrective repairs, maintenances, inspections, retrofits, large component exchanges, and repairs as assigned throughout the U.S. and Canada safely and efficiently following company procedures and processes
Diagnoses, analyzes, and resolves issues on blades wind turbines
Utilizes specialized tooling and equipment to perform activities
Identifies potential hazards and communicates to management
Follows defined instructions and schedules, executes plans as directed, and performs according to the instructions from Resource Management
Establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers, subcontractors, and peers, as well as performs necessary administrative duties accurately
Utilizes appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed safely
Maintains, properly, tools and equipment used to perform repair activities
Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma preferred OR an equivalent combination of experience, technical training, and safety certifications
A 2-year degree in wind turbine technology or a similar field is strongly preferred
2-5 years of field service experience preferred with operations and maintenances, troubleshooting, inspections, large component exchanges, and repairs of wind turbines
Composite repair experience
Understanding of Epoxy and Polyester resins
Wet lay-up and Vacuum bag techniques
Handling of Balsa and foam core materials
Experience in structural repair
Knowledge of fiberglass reinforcement
Awareness and safety of powered hand tools
Quality knowledge of specification at temperature and humidity restrictions
Ability to read complex technical drawings and processes
Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high voltage equipment
Able to work at heights over 60 to 130 meters
Demonstrated use and understanding of power tools
Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings, schematics, instructions, and schedules
Maintain required training certifications such as rigger/signal person certification and crane calling certification
Basic computer skills, familiarity with internet-based programs, MS Office, and ability to generate data and reports using a computer
Flexibility for changes of scope
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, working effectively both independently and as part of a team, while remaining receptive to guidance and feedback
Willing to spend time away from home in the field
Ability to travel 100% of the time domestically and internationally for extended periods and also requires working overtime, including flexible and variable work schedules as needed to meet business needs
Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver's license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver's abstract checks to confirm continued insurability
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 120kg (265 lbs.) or less
Must be able to work in Canada with no Company sponsorship and have the ability to obtain a valid passport
Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to safety protocols and procedures
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies
Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards
Properly use applicable safety equipment, including but not limited to eye protection, hearing protectors, steel-toe boots, and hard hats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted
Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a safe working environment
Speak and understand English fluently to effectively communicate safety and job-related information, follow safety instructions, and collaborate with English-speaking supervisors and team members
