The incumbent serves as a bioinformatics programming professional within the Center for Computational Biology & Bioinformatics (CCBB) at UC San Diego. Working under general supervision, the incumbent applies established computational and statistical methods to support a variety of genomics and transcriptomics research projects.
Job Responsibility:
Performing routine and moderately complex analyses of next generation sequencing (NGS) datasets such as bulk RNA seq, single cell RNA seq, whole genome sequencing, epigenomic profiles, and microbiome data.
Assisting with processing, quality control, and interpretation of large scale datasets.
Contributing to the development and refinement of analysis workflows in high performance and cloud computing environments.
Building and maintaining reproducible pipelines using tools such as Nextflow and containerized environments.
Supporting data management activities, including data organization, secure data transfers, documentation of analysis steps, and adherence to best practices for reproducibility.
Contributing to project reports, figures, and documentation.
Providing technical assistance to CCBB collaborators implementing production level bioinformatics workflows for research and translational applications.
Requirements:
Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.
Working knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.
Working knowledge of applications programming and web development.
Working knowledge of databases.
Working project management skills.
Working knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
Working knowledge of application and data security concepts.
