Do you want to play your part in reducing transport’s climate impact as it moves away from fossil fuels? Transport & Environment (T&E) is seeking a Biofuels Policy Manager to strengthen its EU and international advocacy for sustainable transport fuels. Supplying sustainable fuels to the transport sector remains a major challenge. Under growing political and industry pressure to increase the consumption of unsustainable biofuels, this role is central to defending existing climate policy safeguards, exposing environmental risks within biofuel supply chains, and promoting scalable alternatives. The role will support T&E’s work to reduce reliance on unsustainable biofuels and advance a deforestation-free, human-rights-based transport energy transition. The successful candidate will contribute to T&E’s advocacy on the Renewable Energy Directive and other related EU legislation, while also coordinating an international biofuels project spanning Europe, Brazil and Indonesia.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and support EU advocacy and political engagement to maintain and strengthen restrictions on unsustainable biofuels
Maintain and expand a network of contacts with policy-makers and T&E members working in this field
Support national T&E advocacy in favor of an ambitious implementation at the national level
Build formal and informal coalitions with key industry players, research institutes, and partner NGOs
Work with civil society partners in Europe, Brazil and Indonesia to translate producer-country evidence into EU policy impact
Contribute to strategic planning across advocacy, research and communications to maximize policy impact
Contribute to international advocacy, including at the IMO and ICAO, to limit global demand for harmful biofuels in shipping and aviation
Write, commission and deliver policy-relevant research on deforestation, land-use and human-rights impacts of biofuel supply chains, supporting evidence-based narratives connecting European biofuel demand to impacts in producer countries
Produce briefings and op-eds supporting our policy objectives
Translate complex data into clear, persuasive advocacy materials for EU decision-makers, media and partners
Manage and coordinate delivery of the EU pillar of a multi-year international biofuels project involving partners in Europe, Brazil and Indonesia, including overseeing project timelines, outputs and partner coordination in line with grant, reporting and MEL requirements
Act as a key interface between T&E, consortium partners and funders on biofuels-related workstreams
Support the development of new funding proposals and follow up on existing international grants
Requirements:
Between three and five years of relevant experience in the field of climate, energy, and/or transport
Strong knowledge of EU transport decarbonization policy, with demonstrated expertise on biofuels, land-use or supply-chain sustainability
Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple partners and deliverables
Have strong analytical skills, an ability to quickly grasp technical issues, assess data, and have a working knowledge of Excel
Ability to deliver to tight deadlines
eager to learn, with a positive and optimistic attitude when faced with challenges
Excellent communication and presentation skills, and an ability to write in English fluently, accurately and concisely
Confidence in engaging policymakers, NGOs and other stakeholders in a high-pressure political environment

Other European languages are considered a bonus
