Job Description:

The Biodiversity Advisor plays a key supporting role in the delivery of biodiversity management activities for Mineral Resources' Pilbara operations. Under the guidance of Senior Biodiversity Advisors, the position will assist with fauna handling, biodiversity survey and monitoring, habitat assessment, regulatory compliance, and environmental awareness initiatives. This opportunity is ideal for early to mid-career professionals passionate about fauna and habitat management, who enjoy fieldwork and are looking to work with passionate practitioners focused on innovation and continual improvement. This role will report directly to our Principal Biodiversity, and you will be on a regular 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist in the delivery of biodiversity and fauna management programs at site in accordance with company environmental procedures and relevant legislation
  • Undertake fauna handling activities (under appropriate licences and supervision) including capture, relocation, and monitoring
  • Carry out monitoring activities such as camera trap checks, habitat condition assessments, and vegetation monitoring
  • Support the collection of field biodiversity data, including flora and fauna surveys
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, data management, and procedures
  • Assist consultants, Traditional Owner groups, and scientific specialists

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology, or equivalent
  • Experience in biodiversity, ecology, or environmental management (preferably in the environmental consulting or mining/resources sectors)
  • Experience with fauna handling, preferably including relocation and monitoring
  • A knowledge of WA environmental legislation and wildlife licensing requirements
  • Experience undertaking field survey for fauna and/or flora
  • Basic understanding of rehabilitation/ecological restoration and habitat management processes
  • A passion for science and an interest in innovation
  • Current C Class manual driver’s license

  • Manage and conduct fauna handling activities in accordance with approvals, licences, and regulatory requirements, including relocation and translocation where required
  • Undertake or support monitoring programs for Northern Quoll, Pilbara Olive Python, Ghost Bat, Pilbara Leaf-Nose Bat, Bilby and other species of conservation significance
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulators and internal stakeholders, including assisting with the preparation of environmental compliance reports and management of biodiversity data
  • Develop and implement site-specific biodiversity management plans and fauna interaction protocols
  • Develop and deliver training programs for site staff on fauna interaction, biodiversity awareness, and environmental compliance
  • Mentor and support environmental advisors to build technical capacity across biodiversity and environmental management disciplines
  • Engage with Traditional Owners, local communities, and environmental organisations to foster collaborative biodiversity outcomes
  • Support and assist with environmental research programs being undertaken on MinRes sites
