An experienced BIM Lead is required to support the delivery of one of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure programmes. This long-term, high-profile project is at the forefront of digital delivery within the built environment and plays a key role in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon energy future. The programme is entering a major construction phase and requires strong leadership in the management of engineering data, BIM processes, and information standards across a large, multi-disciplinary supply chain. This role sits within the Engineering Data & Tools function and acts as the focal point for all BIM-related activities across engineering domains. The BIM Lead will be responsible for defining, implementing, and governing BIM and information management processes in line with the UK Information Management Mandate (ISO 19650). The role supports a “digital by default” approach, ensuring engineering information is delivered in the correct format, to the correct standard, at the correct time. Drawing on lessons learned from previous major capital projects, the BIM Lead will work closely with delivery teams, digital, IT, and supply chain partners to enable simplified, pragmatic, and value-driven BIM adoption. The role ensures that engineering data can be trusted as a single source of truth throughout design, construction, and into long-term operations.
Job Responsibility:
Act as the engineering focal point for all BIM-related matters across the programme
Build and maintain strong working relationships with delivery teams and the wider supply chain
Collaborate closely with the Engineering Data & Tools team, Digital, and IT functions to support a BIM-compliant 3D collaboration environment
Support the definition and implementation of digital and information requirements across engineering workstreams
Lead and support decision-making on Exchange Information Requirements (EIR), ensuring outcomes are pragmatic and value-focused
Align diverse internal and external stakeholders around agreed BIM goals and ways of working
Contribute to the development and delivery of the BIM vision, strategy, and roadmap
Develop and deliver BIM-related training where required
Act as the primary BIM interface with senior technical stakeholders across civils, MEH, and equipment disciplines
Manage BIM workload, priorities, and dependencies across the team
Track and report on KPIs, risks, and opportunities related to BIM delivery
Proactively escalate risks and improvement opportunities to the Engineering Data & Tools Manager
Requirements:
Degree in an engineering or science discipline, or equivalent industry experience
10+ years’ experience within an engineering or major infrastructure environment
Strong experience with BIM, 3D design, PLM, or engineering data management tools
In-depth knowledge of ISO 19650 and related information management standards
Strong understanding of configuration management and change control principles
Experience working across complex, multi-disciplinary engineering organisations
Ability to analyse complex problems and challenge solutions constructively
Proven ability to operate effectively across all levels of a large programme
Nice to have:
Experience on major capital or regulated infrastructure projects
Background in sectors such as nuclear, energy, transport, aerospace, automotive, or defence
Understanding of lessons learned from large-scale capital delivery programmes
Systems engineering mindset with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
Awareness of emerging digital technologies and their application to construction and operations
