Our client, a nonprofit legal services organization serving Marin County, is seeking a Bilingual Legal Assistant (Spanish/English) to provide temporary coverage in its Housing Unit while a team member is on leave. This role supports attorneys handling housing and general civil litigation matters, with a strong emphasis on client-facing work and Spanish-language communication. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position ideal for a legal assistant or paralegal who is comfortable working directly with clients, supporting discovery, and assisting with litigation workflows in a mission-driven environment.
Job Responsibility:
Support housing and civil litigation attorneys with day-to-day case activities
Communicate directly with potential and existing clients, including Spanish-speaking clients
Conduct client intakes in the office, by phone, and occasionally at off-site locations
Assist with discovery responses for plaintiff-side matters using established templates
Prepare, compile, and file legal documents and court pleadings
Maintain complete and accurate client files and data in case management systems
Apply California Civil Code and civil procedure under attorney direction
Assist with administrative tasks, including document organization, data entry, and resource materials
Participate in community outreach activities approximately 1–2 times per month
Complete additional mission-aligned tasks as needed to support the legal team
Requirements:
Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written)
Prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in civil litigation or housing law
Comfort speaking directly with clients in sensitive or high-volume matters
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance (required for outreach and intake)
Ability to report onsite in San Rafael, CA 5 days/week
