We are seeking an experienced Big Data Platform Administrator to ensure the operational management, optimisation, and continuous improvement of supported Big Data platforms. This role plays a key part in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable software solutions aligned with global IT standards, while actively contributing to transformation and technology refresh initiatives. The individual will work across the full project lifecycle, collaborating with distributed teams and stakeholders to deliver reliable, high-quality data solutions that meet evolving business needs.
Job Responsibility
Participate in all phases of IT projects, including requirements definition, analysis, estimation, planning, prioritisation, implementation, and testing of Big Data and infrastructure-related solutions
Define technical requirements and evaluate alternative IT solutions to ensure alignment with business and operational objectives
Design, configure, implement, and test Big Data platforms and software solutions in line with global standards and best practices
Develop and maintain scripts and programs at operating system and database level (such as Python, SQL, Bash/KSH, Perl) to automate recurring activities and extend platform functionality
Provide operational management and day-to-day support for supported Big Data platforms, ensuring service availability and performance
Optimise existing systems through architectural improvements, software upgrades, and proactive performance tuning to meet new or changing business requirements
Support transformation projects and technology refresh programmes aimed at improving resilience, reducing downtime, and enhancing application quality
Conduct technical investigations into incidents and performance issues, identify root causes, and propose or implement sustainable solutions
Perform proactive maintenance based on monitoring tools, alerts, and automated notifications
Contribute to proof-of-concept activities by evaluating new technologies and platforms for potential adoption within the organisation
Provide documentation aligned with internal processes, including change management and operational procedures
Be available for exceptional situations, including out-of-hours support when required
Requirements
5–10 years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure administration
Proven experience working with Big Data solutions and analytics platforms such as BigQuery, Tableau, Teradata, SQL, and Python
Confident administering and working within Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments and understanding underlying hardware architectures
Skilled in procedural programming and shell scripting to support automation and system efficiency
Knowledgeable in ITIL practices, cyber security principles, and with a general understanding of SOX requirements
A structured and results-oriented professional with strong problem-solving and documentation skills
Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, distributed, and remote team environment
Customer-focused, with the ability to positively influence the overall customer experience
Fluent in written and spoken English
