Job Description:

The Big Data Support Engineer accomplishes results through the management of professional team(s) and/or Applications. Contributes to standards around which others will operate. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Recognized technical authority for an area within the business.

Job Responsibility:

Partner with various technology teams to ensure big data applications are integrated correctly
Provide expert support for production systems
Analyze complex technical problems and troubleshoot incidents
Help define system requirements for new features and improvements
Identify potential risks, vulnerabilities, and security issues within data platforms
Use advanced monitoring tools to track performance and health of big data clusters
Oversee technical changes to systems
Work on plans to ensure systems can quickly recover from disruptions
Work closely with product owners, business analysts, and other teams
Advise or mentor junior team members

Requirements:

6-8 years of strong experience in IT production support or engineering development
preferably within the financial industry
Strong orientation towards simplification and automation of production services
Solid experience with Linux operating systems (4-5 years)
Strong SQL skills and experience with various databases (e.g., Oracle, Hive)
Familiarity with job schedulers like Autosys or CONTROL-M
Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, UNIX shell scripting, Python, or Java
Hands-on experience with key Hadoop ecosystem components (e.g., HDFS, Hive, Spark, Kafka)
Experience supporting applications on Snowflake
Ability to analyze and improve big data cluster performance and manage resources efficiently
Strong understanding and practical experience with monitoring and logging tools like ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and Grafana
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities
High attention to detail, professionalism, and integrity
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field preferred

Nice to have:

Experience within the financial industry
Familiarity with job schedulers like Autosys or CONTROL-M
Experience supporting applications on Snowflake
